The Springfield Aldermanic Black Caucus is calling for equity-driven long-term growth on the city’s east side.
A statement released by the caucus consisting of Alderman Shawn Gregory, Alderwoman Lakeisha Purchase, and Alderman Roy Williams Jr was in response to east-side redevelopment recommendations from the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance.
The caucus calls for the immediate deployment of available resources, including funds from two new state cultural districts, and the integration of the History Across the Tracks initiative.
Caucus Vice Chair Purchase said the neighborhoods need workforce training, community ownership, equitable contracting, and cultural preservation, rather than more paperwork.
