GasBuddy reports the price of fuel in Illinois is about 36 cents lower than a year ago as Fourth of July holiday intensifies travel across state, nation

As AAA expects record numbers of highway travelers this Independence Day weekend, GasBuddy reports the price of fuel in Illinois is about 36 cents lower than a year ago.

Triple-A reports the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Illinois is $3.43, about 27 cents higher than the national average.

The agency says the average price in the Springfield area is about $3.26.
