A youth charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Southeast High School student appeared in court on Tuesday. Cordae Curb was 15 in April 2024 when he was alleged to have driven a vehicle from which shots were fired that killed 16-year-old Keyon Day along Taylor Avenue in Springfield. Curb’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 10. The alleged shooter, Dremone Patterson, was 16 at the time. His trial is scheduled to begin this Monday. A third defendant, 51-year-old Deshawn Powell, pleaded guilty in April to possession of a weapon by a felon and was sentenced to five years in prison.
