Cook County Democrats will endorse state Representative Margaret Croke for comptroller in 2026. Capitol News Illinois reports she put her name in the mix to replace Comptroller Susana Mendoza, who won’t run again.
House Speaker Chris Welch and Senate President Don Harmon disagreed over whether the party should endorse a candidate. Harmon had backed state Senator Karina Villa. Ultimately, party insiders chose Croke.
They did not endorse a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Dick Durbin.
