A new Illinois law will make it easier for police to remove squatters. Capitol News Illinois reports Governor J-B Pritzker signed a bill Monday that allows police to remove squatters from a home.
The law will consider squatting similar to criminal trespassing. Current law forces Illinois property owners to go through a lengthy eviction process to remove squatters.
Pritzker signed the law Monday after State Representative Marcus Evans called on the governor to sign the legislation after squatters moved in next door to his house.
