Unemployment declined in all 12 metro areas of Illinois in the year ending in June according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Springfield-area jobless rate last month was 3.6 percent, down from 4.6 percent in June 2024.
The number of nonfarm payrolls in the Springfield area increased by 300 over the year to more than 112-thousand. The statewide unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, down from 5.7 percent one year earlier.
