The Springfield City Council heard a presentation Tuesday on a proposed solar farm west of Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.
Solar energy developer Sun2o said the Lincoln Capital Solar Project would generate 125 megawatts of electricity.
For comparison, Dallman Unit Four is rated for up to 210 Megawatts. Electrical grid operators are urgently seeking to bring new power generation online as energy demands grow nationwide.
Developers say that now is the perfect time to start on new green energy projects, because a number of legacy power plants are closing, and federal incentives for renewables are being eliminated. If approved, the Lincoln Capitol Solar plant is expected to come online by 2028.
