Illinois Public Schools to Offer Universal Mental Health Screenings

By Greg Halbleib Aug 1, 2025 | 5:10 AM

Public schools in Illinois will soon offer universal mental health screenings to students under a law signed on Thursday by Governor JB Pritzker.

Capitol News Illinois reports students in grades three through twelve can be screened at least once a year, beginning in the 2027 school year.

The age-appropriate tests are a way to identify kids who are struggling with their mental health and get them help. Parents will be able to opt their children out of screenings
