Ameren in a public meeting in Springfield proposed a $131 million annual base rate increase.
That would equate to an increase of about $8.75 a month for consumers. Ameren says the rate increase will help fund the replacement of aging infrastructure.
The company claims that over 50% of its current system was built in the 1960s. The rate hike has to go to the Illinois Commerce Commission. The Commission is expected to make a decision by December 2025.
