Testimony about Sonya Massey’s state of mind around the time of her fatal shooting in July 2024 as well as any propensity for violence will not be allowed at the first-degree murder trial of Sean Grayson next month.

Chief Circuit Judge Ryan Cadagin denied the defense motions on Friday on behalf of the former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy.

The judge granted defense motions keeping much of Grayson’s work history and personal life out of the trial.

Another pre-trial hearing is scheduled for October 2nd in Springfield before the trial’s scheduled beginning on October 20th in Peoria.
