Local community activists have formed a group to address community misconduct and accountability.
During a launch announcement Tuesday morning at the Old State Capitol, Tiara Standage said the Purple Coalition wants to change the way the community is heard by local authorities by continuing the work of existing groups such as the Massey Commission.
Standage explained the name is an acronym for People United for Reform, Power, Liberty and Equity, and purple was the favorite color of Sonya Massey.
Purple Coalition members are expected to attend sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson’s murder trial for Massey’s shooting death beginning Monday in Peoria. More information is on The Purple Coalition Facebook page
