State Representative Mike Coffey says voters and officials are frustrated with extremism in politics to the point where it’s turning people away from seeking office.
The Springfield Republican told Sam Madonia on WMAY’s AM Springfield that he’s disappointed that Republicans did not slate a candidate for state treasurer.
Coffey suspects more officials will leave Springfield in the next few years. “I know for a fact many old-school Democrats, Kennedy Democrats and union Democrats, they’re tired of the very left of their party,” Coffey said, “and quite honestly a lot of people are tired of the extreme right in our party as well.”
Coffey said gerrymandered maps and super-majorities are detrimental to governing.
