A federal appeals court has blocked a judge’s order restricting immigration agents’ use of riot control weapons against protesters, clergy and journalists.
Capitol News Illinois reports the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling Wednesday comes as the Trump administration’s “Operation Midway Blitz” immigration enforcement campaign has largely wound down.
The lower court judge’s November sixth order restricted agents from using force — including tear gas and chokeholds — without justification or warning.
The appeals court said the judge’s order was overbroad, but warned not to — quote — “overread” their ruling because evidence could support a more narrow order that would protect protesters’ constitutional rights.
