By Greg Halbleib Dec 10, 2025 | 5:40 AM

City Water Light and Power leaders reported to the Springfield City Council on Tuesday on a tentative plan to prepare for future energy transitions.

An ordinance authorizing the purchase of new metering infrastructure was also advanced.

CWLP officials said the public utility is eligible for 479 thousand dollars from the Illinois Energy Transition Community Grant Program and is examining options for how to utilize that money.

CWLP is currently looking into acquiring land for yet-undetermined projects, possibly involving renewable power generation, power storage, or other community benefit opportunities. Additional state grant money is possible.
