Fire Chief Nick Zummo explained to the Springfield City Council on Tuesday that the city’s current procedure was properly followed when warning sirens were not activated during last week’s storms.
Members of the City Council shared criticism and concerns with Zummo over the lack of an alarm for a tornado which tore through the North End last Wednesday.
Alderman Larry Rockford suggested Zummo step down as chief.
Zummo said that as a result of a review, an automated tornado siren is now under consideration by the city for future events.
