Springfield City Council Advances Plan for Feasibility Study of 19th Street Rail Corridor

The Springfield City Council is advancing plans for a feasibility study for development of the 19th Street rail corridor.

The 500-thousand-dollar study would be funded through a state grant.

Mayor Misty Buscher said during Tuesday’s council Committee of the Whole meeting that a study from 2020 projected nine trains a day on the 19th Street tracks, but actual traffic has dwindled to two trains per day and could drop to one per day next year.

Hanson Professional Services will conduct the study, pending council approval next week.
