Update: The suspect involved in the vehicle pursuit Tuesday has died.
Authorities say when officers approached the vehicle, they found the suspect suffering from a gunshot injury that appeared to be self-inflicted.
Troopers provided medical aid at the scene, and the suspect was transported to an area hospital, where the individual later died.
The entire incident remains under investigation

A vehicle pursuit that began near Peoria closed southbound Interstate 55 in Springfield late Tuesday morning.
Illinois State Police Troop 6 said police in Washington and East Peoria reported a person wanted for criminal sexual assault and possession of a weapon by a felon fled from an attempted traffic stop before 10 a.m.
The pursuit ended when police disabled the vehicle on I-55 south of Sangamon Avenue in Springfield.
The subject was taken into custody after a brief standoff and the highway reopened at about noon.
