Suspected Dog Fighting Ring Uncovered in Springfield

A Suspected Dog Fighting ring in Springfield has been uncovered by the Springfield Police in collaboration with Sangamon County Animal Control.

On January 20th the two organizations executed a search warrant at 61 Lilac Lane.

Officers recovered 15 live dogs and three deceased dogs from the property.

Many of the dogs, believed to be Pitbull mixes, bore scars and fresh wounds indicative of dog fighting.

Salenzio Q. Anderson, 35, the property owner, denied involvement in dog fighting, claiming the injuries resulted from dogs fighting over a female.

Anderson was arrested under charges of Animal Torture, Dog Fighting, and Violation of Owners Duties.
