The Illinois Board of Higher Education this week approved a recommended budget for fiscal year 2027 that increases funding by 4.5 percent or 121 million dollars.
IBHE said the increase would support implementation of “A Thriving Illinois” strategic plan to advance equity and affordability in the state’s higher education system.
Nearly half of the increase is earmarked for grants and scholarships.
The budget request now goes to Governor JB Pritzker and the General Assembly.
