The Illinois Attorney General’s office has settled a lawsuit against a company that allegedly improperly removed asbestos from a Kroger grocery store in Taylorville.
The AG’s office filed the lawsuit in August 2022 against Kroger and SSI Services alleging chipped floor tiles containing asbestos were in public areas of the store while it was open.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency ordered the stored to be closed for five months in 2022 while Kroger and SSI completed an abatement plan.
The companies were ordered to pay 108 thousand dollars in civil penalties.
