Springfield City Council Renews Agreement with Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance

The Springfield City Council has approved a renewed agreement with the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance for up to $2.25 million for the period of 2026-2028.

The agreement resulted in heated argument during Tuesday’s council meeting about the prioritization of the north and east sides of Springfield and working with minority groups.

Aldermen Shawn Gregory and Roy Williams Jr. said SSGA has not directed enough attention to minorities and underserved areas.

Although an amendment requiring additional transparency reporting from the Growth Alliance failed to gather enough votes, SSGA Executive Director Ryan McCrady told the council he is working with community organizers to create strategies for business in the north and east ends of town.
