A former Springfield School District 186 superintendent who was named the city’s latest First Citizen has died.
Diane Rutledge was District 186 superintendent from 2002 to 2007 and was active in more than two dozen local organizations.
A District 186 statement said Rutledge died after a courageous battle with ALS, adding that she helped shape students for more than three decades and showed up for Springfield in countless ways.
Rutledge was named First Citizen in November.
