As temperatures got a bit warmer this week, Jacksonville authorities are warning residents to stay off ice-covered ponds, lakes and waterways.
They say warming temperatures significantly weaken ice, even when it looks solid.
While the Jacksonville Fire Department has trained for an ice rescue, they say prevention is still the safest option.
If you do happen to fall into an ice-covered body of water, call 9-1-1 and never try to rescue someone that falls through the ice yourself.
