Gun rights advocates are pointing to a recent decision from a local court in Washington, D.C., as grounds for overturning Illinois’ ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines.
Capitol News Illinois reports the Washington, D.C. Court of Appeals recently struck down a local ordinance banning large-capacity magazines.
The court said those devices qualify as arms that are in common use and thus protected by the Second Amendment.
Illinois passed a similar ban in 2023. A case challenging that law is pending before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
