ISP: Investigation underway after state trooper fatally strikes pedestrian in Springfield

An investigation is underway after a pedestrian in Springfield was fatally struck by a State Trooper’s squad car.
The Illinois State Police announced that at 2:30 AM on Saturday, April 25, a trooper was traveling southbound in the middle lane on South 6th Street approaching the green light at the intersection of Linton Street in Springfield, when they struck a person. The pedestrian was reportedly bent down in the roadway when the Trooper’s squad car hit them.
ISP further stated that the Trooper rendered aid to the struck pedestrian until emergency medical services arrived. Upon an arrival at a local hospital, however, they were pronounced deceased.
Per state law, the incident is now under review by Special Agents of the ISP Division of Internal Investigation.  Upon completion of the investigation, all evidence and facts will be handed over for review by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
