At a press conference at the BOS Center on Tuesday a collection of local leaders spoke about a plan to move forward with the expansion of the BOS Center despite the measure not passing the Illinois legislature as of yet.
Under the new proposal the County would consider a countywide 3% hotel/motel tax dedicated exclusively to financing the expansion.
The want to move forward is due to avoiding potentially millions of dollars in additional construction costs caused by delays.
State Senator Doris Turner, State Rep. Mike Coffey, Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher, and Sangamon Board Chairman Andy Van Meter all support this plan.
This new plan will work in conjunction in the attempt to pass the Capital Area Tourism Authority bill.
