Killers Frontman Says It’s Hard To Separate Morrissey From His Politics

Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has said in a new interview that it's difficult for him to separate British singer Morrissey from his controversial politics. The former Smiths singer has embraced far-right political views that many construe as racist.

Flowers, a devoted Morrissey and Smiths fan, admitted to the Times Of London, “It is difficult to separate it from him, and I’m not going around playing the music in front of my kids.”

But Flowers added, “If ‘What She Said’ came on the radio with my kids, I wouldn’t change it. It’s still an amazing song, so I’m not that serious, where I would change the station. I don’t agree with him, but I’m not going to burn my CDs by the Smiths or anything.”

In 2019, Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr joined the Killers to cover “This Charming Man” at England's Glastonbury festival. Asked about that, Flowers said “I don’t think Marr should be held back because of Morrissey, so I don’t regret it.” Marr himself has publicly criticized his former bandmate.

Imploding The Mirage, the Killers' sixth studio LP, is due out on May 29th. The band had mapped out an extensive world tour, but ticket sales have been postponed and the tour itself is in question.
