Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows has revealed that about three thousand people checked in for seven days straight as part of the band's recent “Incentivized Quarantine” challenge. The band promised it would send free merchandise to all fans who self-isolated for seven days straight.
Shadows explained on Zippo Encore, “We wanted to do something, but we didn't want any agenda in it for us. So we said, 'Okay. If we get people to stay home for seven days' . . . We felt it would be important, instead of coming out with a statement, (to let everyone know) that we were taking this seriously.”
The vocalist added, “We didn't wanna make any money off it. We're paying for all the shipping, we paid for all the merchandise, we paid for all the people to do it, and so we're gonna send them something cool. And it's gonna start this week, once the shop starts coming back online and we're able to get some people in there.”
Shadows told us a while back that the band has always had a loyal fan following: “When we were first starting, there was a lot of bands that, you know, we were selling, you know, 10,000 records and we were jealous that our friends were selling 100,000. Now those bands are gone, and now we're grateful that we've spent this much time and that our fans are still there for us.”
Avenged Sevenfold has kept a low profile for much of the past year as it works on material for its eighth studio album.
