Nominees for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards were announced yesterday, and Taylor Swift leads the pack . . . because of course she does . . . with EIGHT. SZA isn’t far behind with SIX.
Scoring five nods apiece were Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Sam Smith, Kim Petras, and Doja Cat.
It’s very much about the ladies this year. Women dominate the top category, Video of the Year, for the first time EVER.
Sam Smith is the only non-female in the category, and THEY identify as non-binary.
Women also own 100% of the Artist of the Year category. The nominees are Beyoncé, Doja Cat, KAROL G, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, and Taylor Swift.
The “VMAs” are scheduled to air live on September 12th. There’s no word how they’ll handle it if the writers and actors are still on strike. (Check out all the nominees you care about here.)
