This is probably the most unnecessary announcement I’ve ever made:  “Time” magazine unveiled its 2023 Person of the Year, and yeah . . . it’s Taylor Swift.

In the article, Taylor divulged the insane fitness routine she adopted for her Eras Tour . . . which started six months before she hit the road.  She said, quote, “Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud.  Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”

Her gym also prepared a program consisting of strength conditioning, and weights.  And she did three months of dance training.

Quote, “I wanted to get it in my bones.  I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”

She also stopped drinking on the road, where in the past she says she toured “like a frat guy.”  She said, quote, “Doing that show with a hangover.  I don’t want to know that world.”

In between shows she gives herself an entire day of rest, where she only gets out of bed to get something to eat.

Taylor also talked about her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian . . . and the phone call Kim released, which supposedly proved Taylor was lying.

Taylor said the call was “illegally recorded” and “edited” to create a “fully-manufactured frame job.”  And yet it was still devastating.

Quote, “I moved to a foreign country.  I didn’t leave a rental house for a year.  I was afraid to get on phone calls.  I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore.  I went down really, really hard.”

Obviously, Taylor not only survived the one-two punch of that and her dust-up with Scooter Braun . . . she’s kind of dancing on their metaphorical graves.  So it’s not surprising to hear her take a little victory lap.

Quote, “There is one thing I’ve learned:  My response to anything that happens, good or bad, is to keep making things.  Keep making art.  But I’ve also learned there’s no point in actively trying to quote-unquote defeat your enemies.  Trash takes itself out every single time.”

Taylor also has a message for NFL fans who are tired of looking at her.  Quote, “I’m just there to support [Travis Kelce].  I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.”

(Taylor is the first entertainer to be named Person of the Year, unless you count Bono, who was named in 2005 as a “Good Samaritan” along with Bill and Melinda Gates.)

(Here’s every Person of the Year since 1927.)
