Back on July 8th, AC/DC’s legendary 1980 album, Back In Black, was certified 26-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. And on August 21st, the RIAA upgraded the hard rock classic to certified 27-times platinum, which pushed AC/DC’s iconic record into third place ahead of the Eagles’ Hotel California on the list of the best-selling albums in the history of the United States. The Eagles best-of collection, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975), remains at No. 1 on the list with 38 million units sold, while Michael Jackson’s Thriller is No. 2 at 34 million copies. When you factor in worldwide sales, Back in Black sits at No. 2 on the best-selling albums list with a reported 50 million copies sold, trailing only Thriller, which has moved an estimated 70 million units across the globe.
