During a new interview with Variety, Dolly Parton was asked about the controversy surrounding Beyoncé not receiving any CMA Award nominations for her country-inspired album, Cowboy Carter. Parton is featured on two tracks on the album, “Dolly P” and “Tyrant,” while Beyoncé also covered the country legend’s hit song, “Jolene,” on the record. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Parton had a measured, even-keeled take on the situation. “There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that,” Parton explained. Dolly went on to say that Cowboy Carter “was a wonderful album,” and added that Beyoncé “can be very, very proud of [the album], and I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that was good. So I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose.” (People)
