During an off-day while System of a Down was in Chicago for a two-night stand at Soldier Field over the holiday weekend, guitarist-singer Daron Malakian surprised a SOAD tribute band called Peephole by unexpectedly joining them onstage to perform “Cigaro.” Malakian, who was sightseeing at Wrigley Field with his cousin, heard the band playing across the street at the Cubby Bear, so he walked into the venue and shocked both the tribute band and the audience with his surprise appearance. Malakian documented the experience on Instagram, captioning the video, “So many stars had to align for me to end up at the right place and right time. One of the coolest moments I’ve ever had!!! I’ll always remember this night, and I’m sure everyone that was there will never forget it either!!!!!!” System of a Down concludes their brief, three-city North American stadium tour with shows in Toronto on Tuesday and Thursday (September 3 and 5) with co-headliners Deftones.
