A Springfield police officer has received the department’s Life Saving Award for his response to a July crash.
Springfield Police said Officer Matthew Torres responded when a car struck railroad tracks near Wirt and Stuart streets.
The driver was ejected and suffered a compound fracture of his leg. Torres quickly applied a tourniquet as medical responders were en route.
