U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has declined to accept a Lifetime Achievement award from the Chicago Archdiocese.

The award was intended to focus on Durbin’s work on immigration policy, but many Catholic Bishops spoke out against Durbin receiving the award due his pro-choice stance on abortion.

One of the Bishops against Durbin receiving the award was Springfield’s Bishop Paprocki who said in a statement “ I am grateful Sen. Durbin has declined this Lifetime Achievement Award. As we begin Respect Life Month, I ask that all Catholics continue to pray for our Church, our country, and for the human dignity of all people to be respected in all stages of life including the unborn and immigrants.”
