Springfield’s public utility is receiving a 1.1-million-dollar federal grant to upgrade electric infrastructure. The Springfield City Council approved the grant on Tuesday.
City Water, Light and Power said the federal grant will be applied toward the 1.6-million-dollar project. Work will include upgrading real-time monitoring with the ability to automatically locate faults, and replacement of circuit breakers and switches.
CWLP said the work will be done in-house. Work is set to begin this year with completion expected in 2028.
