Government Shutdown Looks to be Coming to an End

By Greg Halbleib Nov 10, 2025 | 5:31 AM

The longest shutdown of the federal government in history appears to be nearing an end.

A group of moderate Democrats agreed to back away from a demand to guarantee health care subsidies as the Senate voted 60-40 on Sunday night to move toward passing compromise legislation.

The compromise would fund the federal government until late January and call for a vote in mid-December on extending tax credits for health care. The agreement would also reverse the firings of thousands of federal employees and provide back pay.
