City Council Considering Placing Citywide Landlord Licensing on Primary Ballot

The Springfield City Council will consider an ordinance to place a citywide landlord licensing program on next year’s primary election ballot.

The council placed the ordinance on the debate agenda for Tuesday’s regular meeting during Wednesday’s night’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

The proposal is the latest in a years-long effort to require rental property owners to meet registration requirements with the city. Proponents argue that giving the city stronger authority to hold problem building owners to account would benefit renters throughout the city.
