Senator Dick Durbin is defending his vote to end the recent government shutdown.
Capitol News Illinois reports congressional Democrats are criticizing Durbin’s support of a plan that doesn’t extend subsidies for the Affordable Health Care Act.
At the Sangamon County Courthouse on Thursday, Durbin said he couldn’t justify continuing a shutdown that was affecting people’s lives.
Durbin said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to convince him to vote no on the bill to end the shutdown.
Durbin was in Springfield to be one of the first to sign a structural beam for the Springfield-Sangamon Transportation HUB.
