A former Springfield Police sergeant has pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence for a crash just hours after his retirement in September 2024.
Michael Egan entered a blind plea of guilty on Friday afternoon in Sangamon County Court. The 51-year-old Egan was arrested after he turned left on East Lake Shore Drive and a motorcycle crashed into his SUV.
The motorcycle’s occupants, Trevor Hopkins and Chelsey Farley of Springfield, were injured.
Four Springfield Police officers were disciplined for their handling of the crash. Egan faces between one and 12 years in prison. Sentencing is January 26.
