Three residents trapped in a burning apartment building were rescued by Springfield firefighters on Sunday morning.
The Springfield Fire Department received the call before 10 am to the 800 block of Enterprise Street. Firefighters used a ladder to rescue a resident hanging from a second story window and rescued two trapped occupants on the first floor as the blaze was extinguished.
Several pets died from smoke inhalation while several other pets were rescued.
Five residents were displaced. The building sustained moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
