The IHSA has approved an amendment that will expand the football playoffs from 256 teams to 384 teams.
The number of classes will remain the same but the number of teams in each class will move from 32 teams to 48 teams.
To allow for the expanded playoffs the regular season will now start a week earlier on August 20th 2026 thus eliminating the Week Zero scrimmage.
