Springfield City Council to Debate Service Contract with Sangamon County Animal Control

The Springfield City Council is set next week to debate the city’s longstanding service contract with Sangamon County Animal Control.

The current contract between the city and the county has been extended for several years without modification, but several on the council believe new terms are necessary to ensure effective services for Springfield.

Ward 3 Alderman Roy Williams leveled sharp criticism at County animal control for inconsistent service during Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

Williams cited a number of complaints in his ward, including pets being killed by strays or neighbors’ animals.

The city has not received bids from alternative animal control services in its most recent request.
