Former Springfield Cop Michael Egan Sentenced

By Greg Halbleib Feb 2, 2026 | 5:44 AM

A retired Springfield police sergeant has been sentenced to up to 180 days in jail and two years probation for causing a crash with a motorcycle that seriously injured its two occupants in September 2024.

Michael Egan pleaded guilty in November to aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm.

Egan must serve 90 days in custody with the potential for an additional 90 days if he violates his probation.

Trevor Hopkins and Chelsey Farley were injured in the crash.

Farley gave an impact statement during Friday’s sentencing hearing, saying she hoped Egan would be punished “as severely as any of the rest of us.” Egan said the incident was the biggest regret of his life.
