Removal of the unused City Water, Light and Power railroad bridge over Interstate 55 on the south side of Springfield is scheduled to begin later this month.
The bridge is between the Stevenson Drive and Sixth Street interchanges.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reports that the removal of the bridge is expected to take two months.
The work will require overnight lane closures through February followed by complete closure of the interstate during overnight hours in March.
The removal project is part of the work to expand Interstates 55 and 72 around Springfield.
