“Pillar” of the Community: Tumblr Responds to Halsey After Anniversary Video Snub

A milestone celebration for Tumblr turned into a brief social media controversy after singer Halsey noticed she was missing from the platform’s anniversary tribute.

The blogging site marked its 19th anniversary with a video highlighting artists who helped shape Tumblr’s music culture during the early 2010s. The montage featured acts such as The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey, A$AP Rocky and One Direction. Soon after the clip circulated online, Halsey pointed out that her name was not included.

Halsey built a large following on Tumblr before mainstream success, using the platform to share early music and connect with fans. In a playful post reacting to the video, the singer joked that she had “kept the lights on for years,” suggesting the platform owed part of its music-era popularity to her presence.

Tumblr later acknowledged the oversight. In a public reply shared on social media, the company apologized and described Halsey as a “pillar” of the community during Tumblr’s peak years in pop culture.

The exchange quickly drew attention from fans, many of whom remembered how closely the singer’s early career was tied to the platform.
