Meet Our Latest Friend
This week on The Morning Routine with Rocki & Lacey, we welcomed a truly special guest for our latest edition of Circle of Friends—Dr. Ken Sagins, Chief Medical Officer at Springfield Clinic and, as we learned, an all‑around fascinating human being.
Most people know Dr. Sagins as the calm, steady leader behind one of the region’s largest medical groups. But during our conversation, we got a much deeper look at the man behind the white coat—and let’s just say, he’s got layers.
The Doctor… Who Plays in a Band?
One of our favorite discoveries: Dr. Sagins isn’t just a medical leader, he’s also a musician. Yes, you read that right. When he’s not overseeing clinical operations or advocating for better community health, he’s behind a microphone or strapped to a guitar with his band, Doctor Doctor.
He told us the band started as a fun creative outlet—something that allowed him to decompress from the emotional intensity of medicine. Over time, it’s become part of his identity and a huge source of joy. Music, for him, is just another way to connect with people. (Plus, he gets to show off some surprisingly solid rhythm.)
Balancing Work, Home, and a Whole Band
We also dug into how he manages that ever‑tricky work‑life balance. Being Chief Medical Officer isn’t exactly a 9-to-5 gig, and Dr. Sagins is refreshingly honest about that.
He shared how he carves out intentional time for family, how he protects moments of downtime, and how he recharges so he can be present both at home and at work. It’s clear he practices what he preaches when it comes to wellness—something not all doctors are great at! But Ken seems to genuinely put energy into being grounded, connected, and human.
Why Pediatrics?
One of the most heartfelt parts of the conversation was hearing how he found his calling in pediatrics. Dr. Sagins talked about the early experiences that shaped him—the young patients who taught him compassion, the mentorship that guided him, and the “this is where I’m meant to be” moment that set him on the pediatric path.
You could feel how much those early years still mean to him.
Finding His Way to Springfield Clinic
Dr. Sagins also shared the story of how he eventually landed at Springfield Clinic. What began as a professional opportunity soon became a long‑term home. He talked about the relationships he’s built, the collaborative spirit among providers, and why the organization’s commitment to high‑quality care has kept him rooted here.
Community Partnerships & Preventive Care
We also got into some of Springfield Clinic’s meaningful partnerships throughout the region—programs that help expand access to care, support families, and keep communities healthier overall.
And of course, Dr. Sagins, in true pediatrician fashion, emphasized the importance of prevention. Not just as a medical concept, but as a lifestyle—routine checkups, mental health awareness, healthy habits, and staying proactive instead of waiting until things go wrong.
It’s the kind of advice that sounds simple but can truly change lives.
