The Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey welcomed a special guest, Katie Alsup from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois, for a heartfelt and informative conversation. Katie shared her personal journey with Ronald McDonald House, which began during one of the most challenging times of her life. After the premature birth of her daughter, Lindy, Katie and her family relied on the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield as a place to stay during Lindy’s nine-month hospitalization in the NICU. Having a comfortable place just minutes from the hospital allowed Katie to remain close to her daughter while also providing stability, rest, and support during an emotionally and physically exhausting period.
During the interview, Katie highlighted the many services Ronald McDonald House Charities provides to families facing serious childhood illness. These include safe and affordable lodging near medical facilities, daily meals, communal kitchens, laundry facilities, play areas for siblings, and supportive programming designed to ease stress and foster connection among families going through similar experiences. These services allow parents to focus on what matters most—being present for their child’s medical care—without the added burden of travel and lodging costs.
Inspired by the compassion and support she received, Katie found a calling in giving back. She went on to volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House, working to provide the same sense of comfort, hope, and relief to other families navigating long hospital stays. Her story is a powerful example of how the organization not only helps families in crisis but also builds a lasting community of support.
Katie also discussed recent and upcoming fundraising efforts that help sustain these vital services. She shared details about the organization’s recent gala—the first one held in ten years—which was a tremendous success thanks to strong community support. She also previewed upcoming events, including Kids and Clays and their annual summer golf outing, both of which help raise funds while bringing the community together for a great cause.
