Purple Coalition Calls for More Police Transparency

By Greg Halbleib Apr 14, 2026 | 5:37 AM

A local activist group formed in the aftermath of the shooting death of Sonya Massey is demanding transparency from Springfield Police.

The Purple Coalition announced its demands on Monday evening near the city offices.

The group demanded an apology to 19-year-old Promyss Davis for her March 27 arrest in which an officer wrestled her to the ground and struck her in the head with a fist.

The department has said the officer followed its policy.

Purple Coalition member Reggie Guyton said police must improve their relationship with the community.

Other demands include allowing a so-called “justice-impacted person” to serve on the Police Community Review Commission and releasing police body cam video of a January 10th officer-involved shooting.
