A second straight day of severe weather in Central Illinois knocked out power to thousands of residents on Thursday evening.
City Water, Light and Power in Springfield reported more than 11,000 customers were without power in 64 areas throughout the city at the height of the outages late Thursday night.
The utility said it is using all available resources and is fully staffed with more than 100 CWLP workers with 50 trucks supplemented by 40 contract crew members with 32 trucks.
CWLP said some crews were on standby earlier Thursday in anticipation of last night’s storms, noting workers must have eight hours off after working 16 consecutive hours.
The utility said the Indian Hills area will remain without power until Ameren crews return today to complete work for equipment attached to a CWLP pole.
